$168,037 Scoping study ... the most significant cycling study ever undertaken in Australia – Oct 13th 2009

North Sydney Council last night approved the successful tenderer (PricewaterhouseCoopers / Sinclair Knight Merz)  for the $168,037 Scoping study for the HarbourLink project.  The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change originally allocated $50,000 for this study, but additional funds have now been provided by the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority ($93,037) and the North Sydney Council ($25,000).

The study will be the most comprehensive study ever undertaken in Australia on the benefits of cycling, identifying all aspects relevant to cycling including sustainable transport.  PWC are contracted to undertake the study with a draft report expected this month (April 2010).

An excellent summary of the study can be found at the Institute of Sensible Transport website ...... http://www.sensibletransport.org.au/project/sydney-harbour-bridge-active-transport-corridor-study

The study will investigate the 3km long 'missing link' along the Warringah Freeway corridor between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Naremburn (Merrenburn Ave), where a 7.5km long SUP (shared user path / cycleway) extends along the southern side of the Gore Hill Freeway corridor, then under the Pacific Highway to Longueville Rd &  Epping Rd (Lane Cove), across the Lane Cove River through to North Ryde (Wicks Rd).  This 7.5km long facility was constructed as part of the Lane Cove Tunnel Project.
